Everyone talks about Organic and wants food to be Organic, but what is Organic about. Are we eating non - organic food all these days? Changing to organic diet now part of health and wellness goals for many.
According to Organic.org "Organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones."
Recent trends to go Organic is by product of rise in medical complications and awareness created on the bad practice by farmers to increase productivity and shelf life of food.
In a way Organic food is the most natural and simpler form of food we have been eating from the time humans started inhabiting earth. For individual and corporate needs man created fertilizers, pesticides and made huge profits. Now to eat pesticide free food we have to pay double the money. This is a most debated and worst outcome of modern farming.
Grocery stores shelves are getting filled with organic products, we see new small pop up organic stores. While its good to see more awareness its heartening to see the price tags. Innocent citizen should have the luxury of paying extra for normal food. Majority of population has to end up eating food which are chemicals.
Corporate farming giants are utilizing this opportunity to sell veggies and food at exorbitant cost to us. Organic farming has become a new niche segment.
Increase in use of natural and organic products have created a new market. Analyst are predicting Organic farming as next boom and they have submitted many comprehensive studies and white papers to show benefits from this trend. Organic market is not just limited to Food and Farming.

Benefits of Organic products are limited to developed nations and individuals who have high purchasing power. Cost of organic farming is high because of complex regulations guiding what is Organic farming and lesser demand.
In future when more awareness among larger population is created and demand increases we may see prices come down. But for now Organic food is going to be the food for the rich and affluent class, but produced by the poor farmers. More farmers will take up organic farming when the higher retail price benefit is passed on to them.
